Lilly Wachowski says she is 'done' with The Matrix franchise

Lilly Wachowski has stated that she is “kinda done” with The Matrix franchise, expressing little interest in returning to direct or write new installments. Despite her personal desire to move on from the series, the future of a fifth film remains complicated due to the creative approach of director Drew Goddard.

Goddard, who is currently developing the project for Warner Bros., reportedly refuses to move forward with the production without the “blessing” of both Lilly and Lana Wachowski. While Lilly has indicated she does not wish to return to the “sandbox,” she noted that she and her sister might “stick our noses in a tiny bit” to review Goddard’s vision and decide whether to grant their approval.

Lana Wachowski is currently slated to remain involved as an executive producer. The project marks the first mainline entry in the franchise that would not be directed by the Wachowski sisters. Goddard has emphasized his commitment to honoring the original creators and the fans as he works on the script.
