Drew Rasmussen projected as top MLB trade target for Rays

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen is expected to be a primary trade candidate during the upcoming MLB offseason. His high market value is driven by an exceptional season and a contract structure that offers significant team control.

Rasmussen signed a two-year deal in January 2025 that included a 2027 club option. Due to performance and health-related escalators, the value of that option has risen significantly. If Rasmussen maintains his current pace and health, the 2027 option could reach as high as $20 million, which would exceed the highest single-season salary ever paid by the Rays.

While his history of surgeries and durability concerns may impact negotiations, his efficiency and the ability for an acquiring team to secure multiple years of control make him a highly sought-after asset. Potential suitors include contenders such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, and New York Yankees.
