DRI arrests Chinese national in Mumbai gold smuggling bust

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled an international gold-smuggling syndicate in Mumbai. During an inspection of a consignment arriving from Hong Kong at the Mumbai Air Cargo Complex, officials discovered 691.870 grams of 24-carat gold concealed inside a treadmill motor.

The seized gold is valued at approximately Rs 1.10 crore. Two individuals were arrested under the Customs Act, 1962, including a Chinese national and an individual managing the importing firm. Following the discovery, DRI officials conducted follow-up searches in several locations, including Mumbai, Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu.
