DRI seizes ₹3.09 crore worth of smuggled gold at Nagpur station
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized foreign gold valued at approximately ₹3.09 crore from a passenger on the Gyaneshwari Express at Nagpur Railway Station.
Acting on intelligence that smuggled gold from the India-Bangladesh border was being transported via train, DRI officials monitored the Gyaneshwari Express (Train No. 12102). Upon the train's arrival at Nagpur, authorities detained a suspicious passenger.
During the search, officials recovered 16 gold biscuits weighing a total of 2.165 kilograms. The gold had been concealed using colored cellophane tape and wrapped in old newspapers to evade detection by security agencies.
The suspect has been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. DRI is currently conducting an investigation to identify the broader smuggling network and determine the intended recipient of the gold.
