Driveclub amateur PC ports enable 4K and unlocked frame rates

Amateur developers are working on native PC ports for the 2014 PlayStation 4 racing game Driveclub, moving beyond traditional emulation. The project known as DriveClub Recomp, developed by OverkillLabs3, utilizes the game’s original x86-64 code to run directly on PC CPUs by reimplementing PS4 system libraries and translating graphics commands to the Vulkan API.

The port supports resolutions ranging from 720p to 8K, ultrawide monitors, and unlocked frame rates. It also introduces modern anti-aliasing options, including NVIDIA DLAA for GeForce RTX users and AMD FSR 3.1 for Radeon users. Performance tests indicate that high-end hardware, such as an RTX 5070 Ti and Ryzen 7 5800X3D, can achieve approximately 60 FPS at 4K resolution in demanding scenes.

A second project, DCport, is also exploring similar native implementation approaches. Both projects require players to provide their own game files from version 1.28. While performance is high, some technical issues remain, such as shader compilation during initial gameplay and brightness inconsistencies in certain reflections.
