Driver confusion over traffic signs in Spain and Denmark

In Spain, a blue circular sign with a red border and diagonal red stripe indicates a general parking prohibition. A supplementary plate reading “excepto servicios religiosos” exempts vehicles directly involved in religious activities such as ceremonies or funerals, but other drivers remain prohibited and may be fined €200 (reduced to €100 if paid within 20 days).

In Denmark, the S‑3 sign – a blue square with a white car silhouette – marks a lane reserved for automobiles. Although many drivers assume it only applies to cars, motorcycles are classified as automobiles and are permitted. Pedestrians, bicycles, mopeds, electric scooters and other non‑automobile vehicles are barred, and the sign does not automatically designate an autobahn.

Both signs are frequently misunderstood, leading to inadvertent violations and penalties.
