Driver crashes through San Antonio airport gate during police chase

Newly released dashcam and body camera footage from the Texas Department of Public Safety shows a driver fleeing state troopers before crashing through a gate at the San Antonio airport on August 22.

The pursuit began around 1:30 a.m. near Loop 410 and Babcock Road when a trooper attempted to stop a 2012 Chrysler. The driver led authorities on a chase through San Antonio, eventually steering through orange barriers and smashing through an airport gate off Jones Maltsberger Road. The vehicle entered a narrow fenced passage and onto the airfield before the driver stopped and surrendered.

Authorities recovered a firearm inside the vehicle. The suspect faces six charges, including evading arrest with a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, drug possession, tampering with physical evidence, criminal mischief, and criminal trespassing with a deadly weapon. The individual is currently held in jail on a $59,500 bond. Airport operations and flights were not affected by the incident.
