Hungarian court extends arrest of Polish bus driver in fatal M3 accident

A Hungarian court has extended the temporary arrest of a Polish bus driver, Robert M., until December 18. The driver is suspected of causing a fatal accident on the M3 motorway in August, which resulted in the deaths of 12 Polish pilgrims returning from Medjugorje.

According to the District Prosecutor's Office in Krosno, the driver has refused to provide explanations during the investigation. Hungarian authorities previously indicated that the crash likely occurred because the driver fell asleep due to fatigue, causing the bus to veer off the emergency lane and overturn.

The investigation is ongoing, with Hungarian investigative materials being continuously translated for Polish prosecutors. The court's decision to extend the detention is currently non-binding and subject to appeal.
