Maracaibo driver Hugo Castro arrested after fleeing crash that injured pregnant woman and child

Municipal police in Maracaibo detained public‑transport driver Hugo Castro after he fled the scene of a collision that injured a three‑month‑pregnant woman, a 60‑year‑old woman and a one‑year‑old child. Police posted a video of Castro on Instagram where he apologized and assumed responsibility for the material damages.

The victims’ family reported the incident to Mayor Gian Carlo Di Martino, prompting a criminal investigation. The mayor urged Castro to appear voluntarily at the police headquarters; otherwise, authorities would arrest him at any time. Castro was later taken into custody and will face legal proceedings for the hit‑and‑run.
