Greek driver flees police after ramming patrol on Rion‑Antirio bridge

Early Sunday morning a police checkpoint near Megara was triggered by a theft. The driver, identified as I. X, refused to stop, accelerated and led a high‑speed chase through the Corinthia and Achaea regions.

He entered the Rion‑Antirio bridge from the opposite direction, broke the protective barrier and rammed two police patrol vehicles. Police fired at the car's tyres to immobilise it. The driver then abandoned the vehicle in a field near a cemetery in Antirio and fled on foot. No injuries to police, the driver or civilians were reported. The seized vehicle has been sent to a laboratory for forensic examination and a large police operation continues to locate and apprehend the suspect.
