Driver released after fatal crash kills 10-day-old infant
The driver implicated in a fatal traffic accident in Punta Lara has been released. The incident occurred last Sunday when a Ford EcoSport struck a Fiat Fiorino from behind at the intersection of Almirante Brown and 106 streets.
The collision resulted in the death of 10-day-old Tadeo Ledesma. The infant's three-year-old sister was also injured and required hospitalization at the La Plata Children's Hospital.
Oscar Pacheco, 66, an employee of Aguas Bonaerenses from Ensenada, was identified as the driver of the EcoSport. Although initially detained, he was released hours after being processed by the Ensenada Police. The case is being investigated as involuntary manslaughter, a charge that allows for release pending trial under Argentine law.
Authorities, led by prosecutor Carlos Vercellone of the UFI N°10, are also investigating whether the victims were using appropriate safety seats at the time of the impact.
