Driver rescued after car plunges into Uruguay River at border

A Brazilian driver was rescued after his vehicle plunged into the Uruguay River while attempting to board an international ferry connecting Alba Posse, Argentina, with Porto Mauá, Brazil.

The incident occurred near midday at the Brazilian side of the border. Reports suggest the driver failed to heed warnings from ferry workers and continued driving past the designated loading zone, causing the car to fall into the river. At least one person was inside the vehicle at the time.

Witnesses and ferry workers intervened quickly to rescue the driver before the car fully submerged. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by distraction, as the driver was reportedly using a mobile phone with the windows closed and air conditioning running, which prevented him from hearing the workers' shouts. Authorities from both Argentina and Brazil are investigating whether the cause was human error or a mechanical failure.
