Scott Knight killed in harness racing accident in Osoyoos

Harness racing driver Scott Knight, 52, was killed during a multi-horse collision at Desert Park Raceway in Osoyoos, British Columbia. The accident occurred during the fifth race on Sunday when a horse named Dillon James broke stride and fell, causing trailing drivers and horses to be unable to avoid the downed equine team.

Knight, a Langley resident with over 1,400 career wins as a driver and trainer, was driving the horse Wits Beach at the time of the crash. Other participants, including driver Carson Abbott, were treated for injuries, with some being transported to Penticton hospital in serious but stable condition. All horses involved in the collision survived.

Desert Park Raceway cancelled its remaining programming for Sunday and Monday, with racing scheduled to resume on October 26. Kelly MacMillan, president of the Western Canada Horse Racing Association, expressed profound grief over the loss, stating that the racing community is reeling from the incident.
