Road safety incidents and enforcement operations reported globally

Various regions are reporting incidents related to road safety, including increased enforcement and fatal accidents.

In Chile, authorities in La Araucanía have launched permanent 'Zero Tolerance' operations. Coordinated by SENDA, Carabineros, and local municipalities, these efforts involve continuous alcohol and drug testing for public transport drivers in Temuco and Padre Las Casas to prevent traffic accidents. In Quilpué, a similar enforcement operation led to the arrest of a bus driver who tested positive for cocaine.

Other reported incidents include a fatal collision involving a cyclist in Xinzo de Limia and a 70-year-old cyclist in Salta. In Spain, a driver was sentenced for speeding at 224 km/h while under the influence of cannabis, and a Supreme Court ruling upheld a fine following a decade-old fatal accident in Vilallonga del Camp.

Additional reports highlight a driver in Argentina whose vehicle was seized after testing positive for alcohol following a collision, and a woman in Mallorca who faced investigation after a collision and subsequent confrontation with police while intoxicated.
