Driver Testifies in Bartın Court Over Fatal Crash Killing Nursing Student

On 23 October 2025 a traffic collision on the Bartın‑Zonguldak highway in Turkey killed university nursing student Eda Nur Tatlıoğlu. The driver, 23‑year‑old Furkan Turhan Gülle, was found to have a blood‑alcohol level between 0.83 and 1.45 ‰ and was charged with driving under the influence, reckless homicide and causing bodily injury.

During a hearing before the Bartın 1st Heavy Criminal Court, Gülle testified that he believed the alcohol’s effects had worn off before he set off and that the vehicle was travelling at the legal speed limit of 80‑90 km/h. Prosecutors and witnesses presented evidence indicating the car was travelling at about 117 km/h at the moment of impact. The court ordered Gülle to remain in custody and the case was adjourned for further investigation, while his family expressed profound grief.
