Driving license requirements and training in Germany

Information regarding driving license requirements and training programs in Germany covers various classifications, including Class B and professional driver qualifications.

For a Class B license, the standard minimum age is 18, though exceptions exist for 17-year-olds under specific conditions, such as accompanied driving (B17) or vocational training as a professional driver. Requirements for obtaining this license include passing both theoretical and practical examinations, providing a valid ID, a biometric photo, proof of an eye test, and completion of a first-aid course. A Class B license permits the operation of vehicles with a maximum total mass of up to 3,500 kg and up to eight passenger seats, as well as trailers up to 750 kg.

Additionally, professional training services are offered for Class C/CE truck licenses and specialized training for 16-year-olds. Professional drivers are also required to undergo periodic continuing education modules every five years to maintain their qualifications, covering topics such as economic driving and load security.
