Drogasil sued by MPT over alleged ergonomic violations in Pernambuco

The Labor Public Ministry in Pernambuco (MPT-PE) has filed a civil public action against the pharmacy chain Drogasil, seeking R$ 2 million in compensation for collective moral damages. The lawsuit alleges ergonomic irregularities affecting employees, including cashiers and counter attendants, across various locations in the Greater Recife area.

According to the investigation, workers were reportedly prevented from sitting during their shifts, even when no customers were being served. While chairs were present at workstations, the MPT claims they were often only there to create an appearance of regulatory compliance. Employees reported experiencing intense fatigue and physical pain in their legs, feet, and spines due to being forced to remain standing for the duration of their shifts.

The MPT is requesting that the company comply with NR-17 regulations by providing seats with backrests and allowing for posture alternation and psychophysiological recovery breaks. In addition to the R$ 2 million for collective damages, the ministry is seeking fines of R$ 20,000 for any violated obligations and R$ 2,000 for each affected worker.
