Turkish football officials detained in illegal betting probe FAST-MOVING

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting a major investigation into illegal betting and sports crimes, known as the 'Referees File'. The probe has led to the detention of several high-profile football officials, including Central Referee Board (MHK) President Ferhat Gündoğdu and various members of the Turkish Football Federation's refereeing bodies.

In a recent development, Super Lig referee Yasin Kol and assistant referee Göktuğ Hazar Erel were detained following the analysis of digital evidence and financial records from MASAK. The officials face charges including violating Law No. 7258 (illegal betting), participating in the forgery of official documents, and abuse of office. Yasin Kol, who officiated a recent friendly match between Trabzonspor and Drogheda United, has denied all allegations of betting or match-fixing, stating that his recent financial transactions were merely personal loans to acquaintances.

The investigation continues as authorities examine digital materials and financial movements to determine the full extent of the alleged criminal activity within the Turkish football officiating structure.
