Droneport-1000 initiative launched to advance Malaysia’s Low Altitude Economy
Selangor Aviation Technology and Innovation (SELATI), in partnership with Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), has launched the Droneport-1000 initiative in Sabak Bernam, Selangor. This project is designed to advance Malaysia’s Low Altitude Economy by establishing a test and evaluation facility for unmanned aircraft systems, next-generation drone technologies, and Advanced Air Mobility.
The initiative aims to foster collaboration between government, academia, and industry, focusing on research, testing, talent development, and the commercialization of unmanned aviation solutions. It is intended to support the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) and complement local sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and environmental stewardship.
Potential applications for the technology include precision agriculture, crop monitoring, logistics, infrastructure inspection, emergency response, and biodiversity conservation. According to YB Dr Mohammad Fahmi bin Ngah, the project reflects Selangor’s commitment to building the necessary ecosystem for a low-altitude economy through digital infrastructure and innovation.
