Drones expand utility in agriculture and industrial sectors

Drones are increasingly being utilized as strategic tools across various sectors, moving beyond simple photography into specialized applications such as logistics, security, and precision agriculture.

In Colombia, the SENA institution has implemented the CampeSENA strategy, investing approximately 4,000 million pesos to deliver 11 agricultural drone kits. This initiative aims to strengthen precision agriculture by helping producers monitor terrain, identify crop issues, and apply inputs locally, thereby reducing waste and increasing productivity. The program emphasizes that technological adoption must be paired with training to help farmers interpret data effectively.

Globally, drone technology is evolving through advancements in miniaturization, battery autonomy, and artificial intelligence. Modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) now incorporate sophisticated sensors, autonomous navigation, and obstacle detection, allowing them to perform complex tasks in difficult-to-reach areas with greater efficiency and safety.
