Drought and heat impact crops and pastures across US regions

Agricultural experts are monitoring significant drought and heat conditions affecting crops and pastures across parts of the United States. In the Southeast, including Georgia, Alabama, and North Florida, drought conditions have intensified due to inconsistent rainfall. However, climatologists suggest that a strong El Niño pattern may bring increased rainfall to southern Georgia, Alabama, and northern Florida later this winter, potentially ending the drought by spring.

In Missouri, the combination of high temperatures and low rainfall is impacting soybean yields and livestock resources. Specialists report that declining soil moisture and prolonged heat are leading to smaller seeds and reduced yield potential for soybeans. Additionally, drought conditions have caused forage shortages, forcing livestock producers in southwestern Missouri to purchase and feed hay earlier than usual as pastures become dormant.
