Drought triggers water rationing in Santander and emergency measures in Allande

Severe drought conditions are causing significant water shortages in multiple regions. In Santander, Colombia, the number of municipalities facing water rationing has increased to 13. Four localities—Capitanejo, Oiba, Vélez, and Cabrera—have declared a state of public calamity. The shortage is driven by prolonged low rainfall and structural damage to water networks. In Vélez, residents have faced service suspensions for nearly a month, relying on water tankers for supply.

In Allande, Spain, local authorities are responding to extreme water scarcity that affects both human consumption and livestock. The municipal government has constructed emergency watering holes and new reservoirs in areas such as Celón, Linares, and San Emiliano to support cattle farming. Local officials noted that the lack of snow has prevented aquifers from recharging, exacerbating the crisis.
