Tama River drowning leaves junior high student in critical condition

A ninth-grade male student is in critical condition after drowning in the Tama River in Fuchu, Tokyo. The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on August 16, while the student was playing in a pond-like area connected to the river with five friends.

The student was discovered approximately 40 minutes later at a depth of about 2 meters. Although he was transported to a hospital, he remains unconscious. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the exact cause of the accident.
