Drowning rescues on Gran Canaria hotel pool and Vaggeryd lake

A 45‑year‑old man on holiday at a hotel in southern Gran Canaria was pulled from a pool after becoming trapped by the suction of a pool‑ventilation system. He was hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Water‑safety experts said the incident highlights the need for emergency stop buttons on pool vents and urged authorities to mandate such safety measures.

In Vaggeryd, Sweden, rescue crews retrieved an older man from a lake after he and his dog swam out; the dog returned but the man was missing until rescuers lifted him from the water. The operation involved about twenty emergency personnel and was prompted by a call from relatives.
