Ontario man sentenced for cannabis smuggling attempt
Alaaddin Koc, a 56-year-old man from Windsor, Ontario, has been sentenced to one year in prison and received a lifetime firearms ban following an attempt to smuggle cannabis internationally.
In October 2024, the Canada Border Services Agency intercepted Koc at Vancouver International Airport. Authorities seized approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis from his suitcase while he was preparing to board a flight to London’s Heathrow Airport.
Following an investigation by the RCMP’s Federal Policing Pacific Region, Koc pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis for the purpose of exportation. RCMP Staff Sgt. Rhonda Hislop noted that despite the legality of cannabis in Canada, the outbound flow of illicit drugs remains a priority for border integrity programs and international partners.
