Drug trafficker escapes Narcotics Control Bureau custody in Jammu

A drug trafficker, identified as Akib Bashir, has escaped from the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu. Bashir, a resident of Kakapora in Pulwama, managed to flee the NCB Jammu headquarters late at night.

Bashir had previously been arrested in Samba after the NCB intercepted a passenger bus and recovered 522 grams of heroin. Investigations into his arrest revealed links to a narcotics module extending to Punjab, leading to a subsequent operation in Ludhiana where an additional 197 grams of heroin were seized.

The escape follows a series of recent drug seizures in the Jammu division, including a major operation where 1.160 kilograms of heroin, allegedly sourced from Pakistan via the Uri sector, were confiscated.
