Drug trafficking convictions result in life and long-term prison sentences

In separate drug trafficking cases, courts in the Philippines and Liberia have handed down significant sentences to traffickers and corrupt officials.

A Regional Trial Court in La Trinidad, Benguet, sentenced Roldan Jacinto and Rocky Jet Bagoling to life imprisonment for the sale of nearly 20 kilograms of marijuana. The conviction follows a March 2026 buy-bust operation that seized approximately 19,894 grams of dried marijuana leaves, stalks, and flowering tops. In addition to life imprisonment, the court ordered each individual to pay a ₱500,000 fine.

In Liberia, a court in Kakata sentenced two Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) officers, Joe Logan and Lovette Flowers, along with Nigerian national Tony Obi, to 20 years in prison. The defendants were found guilty of cocaine trafficking, with prosecutors alleging the officers diverted seized drugs to the black market and accepted bribes. Following his sentence, Obi is ordered to be deported to Nigeria.
