Drummondville inaugurates new military memorial and cenotaph
The Place du Royal 22e Régiment and a renovated cenotaph were officially inaugurated at Philippe-Bernier Park in Drummondville. The ceremony included a military parade titled ‘Droit de cité’, the playing of the Canadian national anthem, and official speeches attended by municipal leaders, military community representatives, and local citizens.
The new commemorative site features 12 stations and plaques designed to honor approximately 300 military members who have shaped the military history of Drummondville. The cenotaph, which was previously located at Place Saint-Frédéric, has been refurbished and moved to this dedicated space to better facilitate reflection. The monument includes references to major conflicts, such as the First and Second World Wars and the mission in Afghanistan.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 51 of Drummondville installed a time capsule containing letters and various objects. The capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2056, providing future generations with a record of the event and the era.
