Drunk driver arrested after crash injuring teen in İnegöl, Turkey

A traffic collision occurred around midnight on Hamidiye Mahallesi Park Caddesi in the İnegöl district of Bursa Province, Turkey. Seventeen‑year‑old Tuğra U. was riding a motorcycle (plate 16 BYE 279) when it collided with a car driven by 24‑year‑old Mert Can G. (plate 16 BLR 829). The impact threw the motorcyclist onto the road, causing severe injuries that required hospital treatment at İnegöl State Hospital.

The car driver fled the scene without stopping. Police later recovered a piece of the vehicle’s bumper and a dropped license plate at the crash site. Using these clues, detectives located Mert Can G. at his residence and apprehended him. An alcohol breath test showed a blood‑alcohol level of 1.30 ‰. He was charged with driving under the influence and hit‑and‑run, fined a total of 71,000 TL (25,000 TL for DUI and 46,000 TL for fleeing), had his driver’s licence suspended for six months, and was ordered into custody pending trial.
