Drunk driving causes vehicle rollovers in Bolivia and Argentina

Separate traffic accidents involving intoxicated drivers were reported in Bolivia and Argentina on August 30, 2026.

In Oruro, Bolivia, a 22-year-old driver caused a Nissan minibus to roll over on the road connecting Vinto and Sepulturas while traveling toward Cala Cala. The driver tested positive for 0.76 g/l of alcohol. The incident resulted in two injuries and material damage to the vehicle. Colonel Saúl Waldo Lazo Mérida, director of the Departmental Directorate of Transit, expressed concern regarding the rise in accidents linked to alcohol consumption.

In Villa Mercedes, Argentina, a 17-year-old driver crashed a Volkswagen Up into a Fiat Cronos, causing the vehicle to overturn. The teenager tested at 2.14 g/l of alcohol, significantly exceeding the legal limit. While the collision caused material damage, no injuries were reported. Local police and emergency services attended the scene, and the vehicle was impounded.
