Druski discusses childhood trauma and its role in his comedy career
Comedian Druski, born Drew Desbordes, revealed details regarding his childhood trauma and its influence on his career during an interview on ‘The Diary of a CEO’ podcast with Steven Bartlett.
Druski described a difficult upbringing involving physical abuse from his father, a former United Airlines pilot. He noted that while his father’s lessons were valuable, the methods used were overly harsh. He explained that he began using comedy as a coping mechanism to bring levity to his household and to comfort his brother, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Reflecting on his family dynamic, Druski stated, “We don’t come from a broke home; we were a broken home, but we weren’t a broke home.” He noted that his comedy stems from a desire to find the positive in negative situations rather than ‘punching down.’
