Druskininkai hosts night run and folklore festival in August
On August 8, Druskininkai will hold the "Druskininkų naktinis bėgimas," a night‑time running event featuring 1.2 km, 4 km and 12 km routes illuminated with lights, music and laser effects. Participants can choose distances suited to their ability, and all finishers receive a commemorative medal. Druskininkai’s vice‑mayor Simonas Kazakevičius highlighted the event’s role in promoting active leisure, while former scout Ramūnas Šerpatauskas and dietitian‑trainer Eglė Stankūnė will be present at the start line.
From August 7 to 9, the town will also host the Dainavos krašto folkloro šventė, a folklore festival dedicated to water themes in Lithuanian mythology and tradition. More than ten folk ensembles and instrumental groups will perform, and ethnographer Lina Balčiūnienė explained the cultural significance of water in the Dzūkija region. The festival’s opening concert on August 7 will feature the traditional dance "Aisim in daržalį," celebrating the life‑cycle symbolism of water.
