DS Smith and Schneider Electric Unveil Recyclable Fibre-Based Switchgear Packaging
DS Smith, an International Paper company, and Schneider Electric announced a jointly developed fibre‑based packaging solution for three types of integrated electrical switchgear. Unveiled in London on 28 July 2026, the packaging is made primarily from corrugated cardboard, is fully recyclable, and is engineered to secure heavy switchgear components during production, storage and transport.
The design features an openable side tray for stable handling by industrial manipulators, multi‑layered end‑caps, polyethylene dust‑bags and folded inserts to protect metal connectors. It is compatible with automated packaging lines and can be assembled in under a minute. Drop‑testing confirmed its impact resistance, while the reduced empty space improves freight efficiency. The solution supports Schneider Electric’s circularity and decarbonisation goals and earned the Electronics category award at the 2026 WorldStar Global Packaging Awards.
