DSA members pledge support for Chinese socialism

A group of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) activists signed a pledge organized by Friends of Socialist China, a London‑based group. The pledge lists 952 signatories worldwide, including eleven self‑described DSA members, and declares a commitment to “support, defend and build understanding of Chinese socialism.” It argues that China’s size and development make its socialism “crucial for humanity” and criticises capitalism as linked to war, racism and environmental destruction.

DSA’s newly released platform, announced by co‑chair Megan Romer, calls for the abolition of the U.S. Senate and Supreme Court, the end of ICE, the nationalization of large corporations, and the eventual elimination of borders, prisons and the Electoral College. Romer affirmed these positions in a televised interview, describing the Senate as an “anachronistic institution.” The organization, now over 120,000 members, is revamping its agenda ahead of a national summit in Chicago.

The pledge and platform have drawn criticism from Republican officials and mainstream Democrats, who label the proposals as radical. The movement reflects a growing visibility of DSA within U.S. politics and its outreach to foreign socialist models.
