Democratic Socialists of America face scrutiny over platform and primary results

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are facing scrutiny over their political platform and recent primary election results. The organization’s platform includes radical proposals such as abolishing the Senate, the presidency, the Supreme Court, and the Electoral College, as well as defunding the military and abolishing police and prisons.

In recent Democratic primaries, the influence of the DSA has seen mixed results. In Wisconsin, moderate candidate David Crowley narrowly defeated progressive Francesca Hong for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. In Minnesota, progressive Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat to replace Tina Smith.

Controversy has also surrounded DSA National Co-chair Megan Romer, who drew condemnation after stating in an interview that the October 7 attacks were ‘largely inevitable’ and suggesting she likely would have attended an anti-Israel rally the following day. Additionally, a Siena University poll indicates that nearly half of New York voters view the DSA unfavorably, with particularly low support among Jewish and suburban demographics.
