DSA leader Gustavo Gordillo faces Brooklyn eviction lawsuit

Gustavo Gordillo, a co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) in New York City, is facing an eviction lawsuit in Brooklyn housing court. Court filings indicate that Gordillo has failed to make several rent payments for a one-bedroom apartment in Crown Heights.

The landlord, Shimon Liashi, filed the suit in March seeking $5,000 in unpaid rent following missed payments in December and January. According to court records, Gordillo moved into the Eastern Parkway residence in May 2025 while a $1.5 million townhouse, gifted to him by his father, underwent renovations.

Gordillo, a Yale-educated sculptor and advocate for rent abolition, has not filed a formal answer to the suit as required by New York law. The legal proceedings remain pending.
