DSM-Firmenich partners with Boltz to advance ingredient discovery via AI

DSM-Firmenich has entered into a partnership with US-based AI company Boltz to accelerate the discovery and development of new scent and flavor molecules. The collaboration aims to integrate Boltz’s proprietary biomolecular foundation models into DSM-Firmenich’s ingredient-discovery processes.

The partnership will focus on creating exclusive AI models that combine Boltz’s technology with DSM-Firmenich’s extensive sensory science data. These models will be used to predict molecular structures and simulate how they interact with specialized proteins, such as the receptors responsible for taste and smell. This approach is intended to identify molecules that might be difficult to discover through traditional laboratory experimentation.

DSM-Firmenich researchers will gain access to the Boltz platform, including the Boltz Lab interface, an API, and integration with large language model (LLM) agents. This integration will allow scientists to use natural language to manage complex molecular design and prediction workflows. As part of the agreement, Boltz researchers will work alongside DSM-Firmenich teams to pair frontier AI models with sensory science expertise.
