Düsseldorf Airport submits revised capacity expansion plans

Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH has submitted revised plans for a capacity expansion at Düsseldorf Airport to the Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The proposal includes the addition of eight new aircraft parking positions, expansions of operational areas, and modifications to flight operations. Specifically, the plan seeks to increase daytime traffic to a maximum of 60 flight movements during hours when both runways are available, and up to 45 movements when only the southern runway is in use.

The company intends to maintain a limit of 131,000 flight movements during the six busiest months of the year. Within this cap, up to 128,000 movements would be allocated to scheduled and charter services, with at least 3,000 movements reserved for other types of aviation.

The Düsseldorf District Government will conduct a public participation process. The revised application documents will be available for public inspection from September 2, 2026, through October 1, 2026, in various municipalities including Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, and several others.
