Düsseldorf City Council Cancels Opera House New Build Plans

The Düsseldorf city council voted to reverse the approvals for a new opera house, ending the "Opera House of the Future" competition and eliminating any further financial obligations for the project. The existing Deutsche Oper am Rhein building on Heinrich‑Heine‑Allee, which has required over €10 million in repairs since 2017, will now be renovated to maintain operations, with work slated to begin in the third quarter of 2027.
