Düsseldorf City to Fell 173 Hazardous Trees

The Düsseldorf municipal administration has begun removing 173 trees deemed unsafe across the city. The inventory includes 80 street trees and 93 trees in parks and other green areas; 56 are already dead and 69 are dying. Prior to felling, officials inspected each tree for nesting birds and assessed damage from fungal infections such as the bark‑crust fungus and ash‑bark disease, as well as structural decay.

Affected sites include 14 trees at Heerdt cemetery, nine trees on the Rheinwiesen floodplain, and eight trees at Eller cemetery. Residents and pedestrians are being warned with information ribbons on the trees, and district representatives have been briefed. The city plans to replant the removed trees where possible, using a circulation procedure that coordinates with utility providers, the water works and telecoms to ensure safe distances from infrastructure and to meet fire‑safety requirements.
