Düsseldorf Court rules on rediscovered driver's license and driving bans

A ruling by the Düsseldorf District Court has addressed whether a driver can fulfill a driving ban by surrendering a previously lost and subsequently rediscovered driver's license.

In the case, a driver was issued a fine and a one-month driving ban. To begin the ban, the individual surrendered a license that had been reported lost years prior and later found. The driver had previously ordered a replacement document, but claimed it was never received, noting there was no proof of delivery.

Authorities argued that the driving ban could not be enforced until the replacement license was surrendered. However, the court considered the driver's evidence, including an affidavit and documentation of alternative travel arrangements, to determine if the surrender of the rediscovered original document was sufficient.
