Düsseldorf prosecutors seek prison terms in ‘Rich Kids’ drug trial

Prosecutors in Düsseldorf have requested prison sentences of up to 13 years for several men involved in a large-scale drug trafficking ring. The case, colloquially known as the ‘Rich Kids’ trial due to the defendants' wealthy backgrounds in the Rhineland, involves several men aged between 34 and 58 who have confessed to their crimes.

The criminal organization, established in 2022, is estimated to have generated 11 million euros in revenue. The group allegedly distributed hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, 4 tons of marijuana, approximately 20 liters of amphetamine oil, and thousands of ecstasy and oxycodon tablets.

Prosecutor Fabian Pollex stated that the two main defendants face sentences of 12.5 and 13 years, respectively. Another defendant from Bad Honnef, who rose to a leadership position, faces 11 years. Other participants face sentences ranging from six to nine years. The verdict is expected to be announced following defense pleas next week.
