Düsseldorf's Rheinkirmes attracts millions as transport network ramps up

The annual Rheinkirmes fair is taking place on Düsseldorf's Oberkasseler Rheinwiesen from 17 to 26 July 2026. Organisers expect up to four million visitors. On 18 July a firework malfunction over a crowd injured 19 people, four of them seriously.

To handle the surge, the city’s public‑transport operator Rheinbahn has increased service frequency on most lines, offering trains every two minutes and night‑express buses on weekends. Additional park‑and‑ride sites and encouragement of bicycle travel aim to minimise parking pressure and impact on nearby residents.
