DSU chief Raed Arafat says prosecutor fabricated fictitious hiring case

Romania's Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) head Raed Arafat has publicly accused a military prosecutor of artificially gaining jurisdiction over a criminal case concerning alleged fictitious hires at the DSU. Arafat claims the prosecutor fabricated a fact – the involvement of a general – to justify the case being handled by the Military Prosecutor's Office, and then pursued intrusive surveillance measures for about five months, including GPS tracking, audio‑video recording and phone confiscations of 13 people.

Arafat says a court rejected a request for home searches, after which the prosecutor ordered the forced seizure of the suspects' mobile phones. He announced he will file complaints and pursue legal actions against the prosecutor, while the prosecutor's office has not yet commented publicly on the accusations.
