DSWD distributes PHP56.8 million in aid to Cordillera families
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed PHP56.83 million in humanitarian relief to over 87,000 families in the Cordillera region following tropical cyclones and monsoon rains in August.
Relief items included food packs, water, hygiene kits, modular tents, and sleeping kits. Benguet received the largest portion of the aid at PHP29.77 million, followed by Abra with PHP17.49 million and Baguio City with PHP4.02 million. Other areas receiving assistance included Mountain Province and Ifugao.
In response to heavy rainfall, Malacañang suspended classes in Baguio, Benguet, and Abra as rainfall warnings reached orange levels. The total monitored humanitarian assistance in the region, including contributions from local government units and non-governmental organizations, reached PHP80.27 million.
