DTCC to Use Stellar Blockchain for Tokenized Securities Platform

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the United States' largest securities clearing house, announced that its upcoming tokenized securities platform will be connected to the public Stellar (XLM) blockchain. The integration, slated to begin in the first half of 2027, will enable issuance, settlement and lifecycle management of tokenized assets such as U.S. Treasuries and market indexes. Stellar was chosen for its native compliance tools—including on‑chain KYC checks, permissioned asset lists, freeze and clawback functions—meeting the stringent regulatory requirements of U.S. market participants. The partnership, which has developed over nearly a decade, follows DTCC's acquisition of Securrency and its rebranding as DTCC Digital Assets.

Tokenization on Stellar could compress the traditional T+2 settlement cycle to near‑instant finality, reducing counter‑party risk and operational costs. Industry forecasts predict tokenized assets could reach $2 trillion by 2028 and $18.9 trillion by 2033, while DTCC currently oversees more than $114 trillion in assets. The move signals a broader shift toward blockchain‑based infrastructure in traditional finance.
