Déthié Diouf declines appointment as Grand Théâtre Chairman
Déthié Diouf, leader of the political party VISA – Les Citoyens, has declined his appointment as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Grand Théâtre National Doudou Ndiaye Coumba Rose in Senegal.
Following his nomination by the Council of Ministers to replace Ousmane Sané, Diouf expressed public dissatisfaction, stating he felt “humiliated” by the decision. He argued that the position does not align with his political contributions or the support he and the city of Thiès provided to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye during the 2024 presidential election.
Diouf emphasized that his political weight and the importance of his home region should have been more heavily considered in the government's decision-making process. This public rejection of an official appointment occurs amidst a broader context of administrative shifts and disagreements within the current Senegalese governance.
