Nigeria national teams prepare for FIBA and FIFA World Cups

Nigeria’s national women’s teams are preparing for major international competitions in 2026.

The senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has arrived in Berlin, Germany, for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. The reigning African champions are placed in Group B alongside South Korea, Hungary, and France. Their campaign begins on September 4 against South Korea. The team, led by head coach Rena Wakama, completed extensive preparations through training camps in the United States, China, and Spain.

Simultaneously, the U20 women’s football team, the Falconets, has arrived in Katowice, Poland, for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. Following a training camp in Trzebnica, the squad is set to begin their Group F campaign against Spain. The Falconets recently completed warm-up matches, including a 1-0 victory over Poland and a 1-1 draw with Korea Republic.
