Dötlingen children find World War II grenade on campsite playground

Two boys, aged 12 and 13, discovered a World War II grenade while searching for treasure with metal detectors at a campsite in Dötlingen, located in the Oldenburg district. The object was found on a playground within the campsite.

Following the discovery, the children immediately left the area and alerted emergency services. Police praised their actions, stating, “Sie haben sich genau richtig verhalten” (They behaved exactly right).

Bomb disposal experts arrived and identified the object as a transportable grenade from the war. The playground was cordoned off, but a full evacuation of the campsite was not required, and an on-site detonation was deemed unnecessary. Experts successfully recovered and removed the explosive device.
