Du Shangze promoted to Deputy Editor-in-Chief of People's Daily

Du Shangze, born in October 1981, has been appointed as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of People's Daily, making her the first official born in the 1980s to reach the vice-ministerial level in China.

A graduate of Nanjing University, Du has a long career at People's Daily, having served in various departments including the domestic politics, international, and news coordination departments. She previously held roles as a member of the editorial committee, director of the political and cultural department, and president of the Beijing branch.

Du is noted for her extensive coverage of high-level political activities and diplomatic missions. Her reporting, including the piece ‘Xi Jinping: I Will Have No Self, and Will Not Fail the People’, earned her a first prize at the 30th China News Award in 2020. Her rapid ascent within the state media hierarchy reflects a trend toward younger leadership in media management.
